LONDON, July 9 (AFP) ó A work by celebrated 20th-century British composer Benjamin Britten, until recently overlooked by the music world, will premiere at a major concert in London next month, organisers said Friday [9 July].
The four-minute organ piece, Voluntary on Tallis's Lamentations, will be heard at the Royal Albert Hall [on 1 August]. "It's thrilling when a work by a major composer that has been totally unknown turns up," Proms director Nicholas Kenyon said.
Britten composed the piece in 1940 while in the United States. The composition was uncovered at the Royal College of Music in London last year.
