Trumpeter James Watson died on 6 February 2011 at the age of 59. He held principal posts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera House Orchestra and London Sinfonietta. His conducting positions included Artistic Director of the Black Dyke Mills Band, from 1992 until 2000. James Watson was also a teacher and had been Head of Brass at the Royal Academy of Music since 2001.
