Royal Opera Cast Amendment: Anna Netrebko Withdraws As Violetta From La Traviata

Russian-Austrian soprano Anna Netrebko has regretfully withdrawn from the role of Violetta in The Royal Opera’s performances of La traviata on 17 and 20 January 2012, in order to undergo surgery to her foot. The role of Violetta will be sung on these dates by Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho, who now sings the role for The Royal Opera for all the dates in the current run of La traviata.
Ermonela Jaho made her Royal Opera debut as Violetta Valéry in 2008 and returned in this role in 2010. She made her professional debut as Violetta in Tirana , Albania , aged 17 and has subsequently sung the role at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich , Teatro San Carlo in Naples , Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste , for L'Opéra de Marseille, L'Opéra de Lille and in Stuttgart , Verona and Hamburg . Recently for The Royal Opera she made her role debut in the title role of Suor Angelica in September 2011. Other recent appearances include Luisa Miller (Luisa Miller) in Lyons, Liù (Turandot) in San Diego and Mimì (La bohème) at La Monnaie, Brussels.
Ermonela Jaho was originally scheduled to sing the role of Violetta for The Royal Opera in this production on 2, 6, 9, 23, and 25 January.
The rest of the cast remains unchanged with Stephen Costello (2, 6, 9, 17 & 20 January) and Vittorio Grigolo (23 & 25 January) sharing the role of Alfredo, Paolo Gavanelli as Giorgio Germont, Justina Gringyte as Flora, Hannah Hipp as Annina, Robert Lloyd as Doctor Grenvil, Jeremy White as Marquis D’Obigny and Ji Hyun Kim as Gastone de Letorières, conducted by Maurizio Benini.
