London-born Derek Hammond-Stroud, the opera- and Lieder-singer has died at the age of 86. He studied with Elena Gerhardt and Gerhard Hüsch and performed recitals with such pianists as Gerald Moore and Geoffrey Parsons. Hammond-Stroud, born on 10 January 1926 and who died on 14 May 2012, was noted for singing Wagner, particularly Alberich in Der Ring des Nibelungen and Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Derek Hammond-Stroud performed internationally and for ten years was principal baritone with English National Opera.
