Amy Dickson, world renowned classical saxophone player, halts her honeymoon to celebrate as her new album soars to the top of the UK classical charts
London, Sunday 5 May 2013:
2013 is fast becoming a milestone year for Australian saxophonist, Amy Dickson. Having just married the same man twice – once in January in Australia and for a second time in London just before her album was released last week – Amy has called a halt to her honeymoon to celebrate her new album ‘Dusk & Dawn’ (Sony Classical) reaching the coveted No. 1 slot in the UK classical charts.
Amy Dickson said: “I am so thrilled by the fact that my album has become the UK classical number one! I am particularly proud that the album returns the saxophone to its origins in classical music”.
Featuring twelve graceful and elegantly performed tracks, ‘Dusk & Dawn’ includes Fauré’s Pavane, Chopin’s Nocturne and Bellini’s Casta Diva as well as evergreen standards such as ‘ Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’ and ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’.
Inspired by her own romance, it is Amy’s track choices here combined with the sultriness of the saxophone that heighten the magical atmosphere of ‘Dusk & Dawn’. Amy makes playing the saxophone a beautiful, gentle and sensual experience and ‘Dusk & Dawn’, which is the epitome of late night classical listening at its very best, showcases a brand-new soundworld for Amy’s beloved instrument where the shimmering strings and sensual saxophone arrangements evoke the stylish cinema of the 1960s and early 70s.
Her unique position as a saxophonist in the classical world has seen composers write new works especially for Amy, who also arranges music herself for the saxophone.
A remarkable achievement for classical music’s most exciting new artist!
