Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces new principal oboist

CINCINNATI ñ Music Director Paavo J‰rvi has appointed Liang Wang as Principal Oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Wang will begin his position with the orchestra with the opening of the 2005ñ2006 season in September 2005.
Mr. Wang currently is principal oboe with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and principal oboe with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.
A native of China, Mr. Wang studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing from 1993ñ1995. He attended the Curtis Institute of Music from 1999ñ2003, where he earned his bachelor of music degree. His principal teachers were John De Lancie and Richard Woodhams of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Mr. Wang has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards including second prize in the Fernard Gillet International Oboe Competition in 2003.
