Due to the great success of Leonard Slatkinís concerts earlier this year the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are delighted to announce Maestro Slatkinís appointment as Principal Guest Conductor.
His tenure in this new position will commence with immediate effect, with Slatkin already confirmed to conduct the Orchestra during the 2005 Autumn season in their new home Cadogan Hall, Sloane Square.
Leonard Slatkin conducts regularly with virtually all the major international orchestras and has recently been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl as well as continuing as Music Director of Washingtonís National Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1996.
Ian Maclay, Managing Director of the Orchestra, says:
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to welcome Leonard Slatkin as its Principal Guest Conductor alongside our esteemed Music Director Daniele Gatti. Maestro Slatkinís recent series of concerts with the Orchestra was hugely successful and the members of the RPO were unanimous in their decision to offer him a major conducting post. We look forward to developing our relationship with Leonard both in the UK and abroad as he brings a breadth of repertoire to the Orchestra which will prove invaluable.
Leonard Slatkin says:
Thirty-one years ago I was privileged to make my London dÈbut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Nothing pleases me more than to return to this Orchestra in this renewed relationship. Our concerts over the last few months were among the most pleasurable musical experiences I have had, and I anticipate several more years of exciting music making with my colleagues.
