MOSCOW ó Valery Gergiev, chief conductor of St. Petersburg's renowned Mariinsky Theater, was robbed of 500,000 rubles (US$18,000; 14,000 euros) in valuables in Moscow, the city police department said Thursday [May 12].
The goods were taken from Gergiev's dressing room at Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory on Tuesday [May 10], police spokeswoman Yelena Perfilova said.
News reports said the items taken included a gold watch and cellular telephones.
