The Guildhall School is expanding its Summer Schools programme to include six new short courses for 2017. The new courses cover music, technical theatre, coaching and continuing professional development, in addition to the range of Music, Acting and Technical Theatre courses already on offer, giving a total number of 37: the most ever delivered. Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside Guildhall School staff members and guest tutors in a range of workshops, one-to-one tuition and group rehearsals. New courses for 2017:

Contemporary A Cappella with Accent
In a three-day course, internet sensation group Accent works to develop vocal skills for ensembles and individuals, honing areas including: blending, tuning, listening critically, harmony and style and attitude. In addition, masterclasses are given on arranging, vocal percussion and vocal history as well as presentations from guest industry experts. Directed by alumni James Rose who regularly tours with the group, the course is open to those aged 16 and above: sight-reading ability is helpful but not essential. On the Friday, there will be a concert and Q&A with Accent and then a course performance on the final day.

Introduction to Wigs, Hair and Make-up for the Theatre
This intensive two-day course offers an introduction to the world of the hair and make-up department within the theatre industry, for those 17 years and over. Through practical demonstration and workshops, areas covered include: period hair styles & facial hair; period make-up; wig styling and maintenance; special effects make-up. It is relevant for keen amateurs, those considering Technical Theatre BA courses, school staff involved in theatre productions and practitioners looking to expand their skills.

Technical Theatre for Drama Teachers
Tailored to account for the requirements of the new and existing level 2 and level 3 theatre course (GCSE, A level, BTEC etc.), this blended, online course is designed for Drama/Performing Arts teachers looking to expand their knowledge in line with these new developments. It covers the main technological and creative aspects of technical theatre such as lighting, sound, costume and sets and gives existing drama teachers the foundation which allows them to more confidently teach and discuss these subjects with their students.

Creative Entrepreneurs: Short Course
This short course is for performing artists and creative practitioners who want to make new artistic projects happen: in recognition that talent and exemplary craft only make up one part of the patchwork of skills needed to succeed in today’s world. Over three days, areas covered include: identifying you ‘Unique Selling Point;’ practising a sales pitch and approaches to investment & fundraising; developing a business plan; gaining access to the tools, resources and support to master the business side of things with confidence and clarity. Open to those aged 18 and above, it is relevant to artists at all career stages and disciplines and includes an exclusive seminar and Q&A with a leading creative entrepreneur, followed by drinks and networking on the Saturday.

5 Day Intensive Skills Course plus Diploma/Certificate in Coaching (ILM)
Run in association with Linden Learning and in partnership with Consult East, this course is suitable for both experienced coaches wanting to benchmark their practice against ILM criteria, as well as those new to coaching. It can be taken as stand-alone training, or as part 1 of the ILM Certificate or Diploma coaching qualification. The course addresses the neuroscience and psychology behind coaching and you will learn how it can build engagement in teams and with individuals as well as how it links with successful organisation performance. You will also take away the practical tools with which to coach: how to work with people on their barriers and engage their motivation; how to ask powerful questions which challenge and support; and how to deal with strong emotions and give feedback effectively. 3 Day Coaching Course for Leaders and Managers In association with Linden Learning, this course aims to empower participants currently in a line management role to lead their teams better. Acknowledging the difficulties of needing to manage performance but also taking people with you, setting high standards whilst being encouraging, these three days will empower partakers to ask powerful questions that create new thinking and give feedback that is heard and acted upon – developing employees and creating a culture of positive engagement in their organisations. All teaching is based on evidence, on our experience as managers and on working as coaches with thousands of managers in the public and private sectors.
