The Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce the appointment of Maestro Thomas Sanderling as Chief Conductor and Music Director, as of August 2017.
The news follows the Orchestra’s extensive 60th anniversary European tour with Maestro Sanderling that included dates in such key cities as Duesseldorf, Madrid, Vienna and many others after which he was elected by the Orchestra.
Said Maestro Sanderling, himself a native of Novosibirsk: "The Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra is internationally recognised as one of the best Russian orchestras and is internationally acclaimed for its high standard of performance. It performs regularly in Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as abroad and the size of the orchestra (108) and its new Hall together with its fine professional choir means that there is no limit to the repertoire it can undertake. I very much look forward to this new collaboration and the challenges and responsibilities that it brings and for our relationship to flourish in an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust and integrity. Happily we are also the main orchestra for the Trans-Siberian Festival under its respected artistic director, Vadim Repin, who also hails from Novosibirsk”.
The Director of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr Nikolai Sizikov, commented: “We have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Maestro Thomas Sanderling for the past fifteen years and are thrilled with his appointment as Chief Conductor and Music Director following our recent successful tour. We are confident that his creativity, experience and vision will steer the orchestra in exciting new directions”.
