American soprano Nadine Sierra has withdrawn from singing the role of Musetta in La bohème. The role will be sung by Romanian-born British soprano Simona Mihai at performances between 11 Sep and 3 Oct (exc. 23 Sep), and by Lebanese-Canadian soprano Joyce El-Khoury on 23 Sep; 6, 7 and 10 Oct. As originally scheduled, Simona Mihai will sing the role of Mimi on 23 Sep; 6 and 10 Oct.

Simona Mihai previously sung the role of Musetta for The Royal Opera in 2014. She was a member of The Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme 2008–10, during which time she sang roles including Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) and Poussette (Manon). Since leaving the Programme she has sung Frasquita (Carmen), Poussette (Manon), Musetta (La bohème) and Nedda (Pagliacci) for The Royal Opera. This Season she returns to the role of Nedda (Pagliacci) for the Company. Recent engagements elsewhere include Mimì for Frankfurt Opera.

Joyce El-Khoury has previously sung the role of Musetta for Bavarian State Opera, Canadian Opera Company and Dutch National Opera. She made her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Violetta (La traviata). She returns later this Season to sing Sylvia (L’Ange de Nisida) in concert.

The rest of the cast of La bohème remains unchanged.
