Statement from Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians:
‘We are deeply concerned by Wrexham Council’s plans to cut musical opportunities for children and young people. Music is central to our cultural life, a key driver of economic growth, and has a positive impact on children’s cognitive development and emotional wellbeing. Without music services augmenting and supporting what should be going on in every school, music education will become the preserve of those children whose families can afford to pay. This is unacceptable. The Council must withdraw their plans to cut the music service, and we call on the Welsh Assembly Government to invest in a ring-fenced fund to guarantee access to music education for all.’
