Zubin Mehta has had to undergo shoulder surgery and, as a result, cancel his commitments until the end of March 2018. This includes the two concert programmes with the Berliner Philharmoniker in February 2018 at the Berlin Philharmonie and the Philharmoniker's guest performance at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
Bernard Haitink and Vasily Petrenko will stand in for Zubin Mehta with the Berliner Philharmoniker, both conducting the original programmes. Bernard Haitink will conduct the concerts on 8, 9 and 10 February in the Berlin Philharmonie with Leonidas Kavakos as the soloist. Vasily Petrenko makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker on 15, 16 and 17 February in the Philharmonie and on 18 February in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. Soloist Michael Barenboim also makes his debut with the orchestra at these concerts.
The Berliner Philharmoniker is sorry that Zubin Mehta has had to cancel, and are very grateful that Bernard Haitink and Vasily Petrenko are able to stand in for him.
The concert programmes remain unchanged as follows: Bernard Haitink, Leonidas Kavakos, Anton Webern Passacaglia op. 1, Alban Berg Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Antonín Dvořák Symphony No. 7
Vasily Petrenko, Michael Barenboim, Franz Schubert Overture Rosamunde, Arnold Schoenberg Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Maurice Ravel La valse & Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2
