Barbican Presents is the Centre’s own-curated classical music season, featuring some of the very best international and national artists. Full programming details for 2018/19 have now been announced and highlights include: visiting orchestras, including the Vienna Phil, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and CBSO; pioneering collaborations and special projects including Peter Sellars returning to the Barbican with two contrasting productions; Darbar Festival of Indian classical music coming to the Barbican for the first time, and the third edition of the Barbican’s classical weekender Sound Unbound; Milton Court residencies from the ACO to baritone Roderick Williams; an Early Music strand including Italian ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro as the Barbican’s Featured International Baroque Ensemble; a chamber music series featuring the Kavakos/Ma/Ax Trio, Emerson String Quartet and Batiashvili/Capuçon/Thibaudet Trio; a focus on Diana Damrau singing Strauss; solo recitals from Ian Bostridge with Sir Antonio Pappano, Magdalena Kožená with Yefim Bronfman, Benjamin Grosvenor, Evgeny Kissin, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Joshua Bell; premieres and new commissions including new works by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Ryan Wigglesworth and Anahita Abbasi and the return of the ECHO Rising Stars series to LSO St Luke’s sees Barbican-nominated trombonist Peter Moore, Co-Principal Trombone of the LSO.
