On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 June 2018, the Hallé will close their 2017-18 season with Wagner’s Siegfried, the much-anticipated final instalment of their acclaimed Ring cycle and the third part of Wagner’s epic work. Presented over two days with heldentenor Simon O’Neill in the title role, Gerhard Siegel as Mime and Rachel Nicholls as Brünnhilde, the opera will be conducted by Sir Mark Elder who says “At long last, we bring our acclaimed Ring cycle to a climax with Wagner’s hero Siegfried braving the flames to awaken Brünnhilde. I can’t wait!” This concert performance of the opera will also be presented at the Edinburgh International Festival on Wednesday 8 August 2018.
Coinciding with the performance of Siegfried in Manchester, the Hallé CD label will release their new disc of Wagner's Das Rheingold on Friday 1 June 2018. Recorded live at The Bridgewater Hall on 27 November 2016 and produced by the award winning engineer Steve Portnoi, the Hallé are conducted by Sir Mark Elder while the disc features Samuel Youn as Alberich and Iain Paterson as Wotan.
