Glyndebourne’s first ever production of Verdi’s Rigoletto will open the 2019 Glyndebourne Tour. It will be directed by the German director Christiane Lutz, making her directorial debut with the company.
Glyndebourne has a long association with the works of Verdi - in 1938 his Macbeth was the first non-Mozart opera to be staged at the venue and productions of Falstaff, Otello, Un Ballo in Maschera, La forza del destino and La traviata have followed in the years since.
Also touring in 2019 are revivals of Handel’s Rinaldo and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.
Joining the roster of venues in 2019 is Liverpool’s Empire Theatre, the biggest two-tier auditorium in the country. The Glyndebourne Tour has a long association with Liverpool having visited the Royal Court Theatre in the late 60s and early 70s. Glyndebourne Festival productions were also staged in the city in 1940, 1946 and 1956, also at the Royal Court.
Glyndebourne Tour runs from 11 October - 7 December 2019.
