Initiative is winner of the Knight Arts Challenge, made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

Detroit, (May 29, 2018) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will appear on the big screen at the Palmer Park Art Fair—in this case, the big screen on the side of a specially designed mobile video truck. The DSO calls it a Mobile Maxcast, named for the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, home of Orchestra Hall and the DSO.

The video performances will take place Saturday, June 2 (the first day of the two-day event) at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. Each video presentation comprises approximately two hours of concert footage recorded at Orchestra Hall.

The Palmer Park Art Fair is a free annual event in Detroit’s historic Palmer Park. Over two days, guests can view and buy art by dozens of local artists and artisans, purchase food and drinks, enjoy live demonstrations, and more. Additional information is available at palmerparkartfair.com.

The Mobile Maxcast will allow new audiences to experience the world-class symphony in their own neighborhoods, and the DSO is seeking to bring the initiative to other parks and community spaces throughout the city.

With the aim of being the most accessible orchestra in the world, the DSO is proud to explore innovative ways of reaching more Detroiters. Already an international leader in utilizing technology to bring music to people, the DSO launched the Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series in 2011 and remains the only American orchestra to regularly webcast all its classical series programming for free around the world, available at both dso.org/live and via Facebook Live. The series is presented by Ford Motor Company Fund and made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The DSO’s Mobile Maxcast initiative is a winner of the prestigious Knight Arts Challenge, made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Additional sponsorship is provided in partnership with Quicken Loans.

Archived performance videos, like those that will be shown during the Mobile Maxcast, are also available on-demand via DSO Replay, available at dso.org/Replay, which is available to all subscribers and donors who contribute $50 or more to the DSO’s Annual Fund.
