Venzago took the images behind the scenes at LSO concerts and on tour with the Orchestra in St Petersburg. The striking shots, blown up to 7m x 2.5m metres tall, will be accompanied by LSO recordings of music ranging from Beethoven and Debussy to music from the films Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The exhibition aims to introduce commuters and City workers to the magnificence and breadth of the LSOís orchestral soundworld, while also conveying the visual excitement of musical performance. As such, throughout the day it will give passers-by an intriguing taste of what itís like to experience the power of a live orchestral performance. The opening of the LSOís 2006/7 season at The Barbican is from Saturday 23rd September.
Richard Hardie, Vice Chairman of UBS said ìIn commissioning this installation we wanted to both demonstrate our commitment to our partnership with the LSO and introduce the general public and our colleagues in the City to our passion for orchestral music. Our hope is that the exhibition will reflect ñ and perhaps awaken ñ that same passion in others.î
The music element of the exhibition will run from 7am to 9pm from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd September.
