STRATFORD ON AVON INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF WORDS AND MUSIC TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO WITHDRAWAL OF FUNDING
The 2018 Stratford International Festival of Words and Music, which was due to run from 20th to 29th September, has regrettably been cancelled due to recent decisions by The Arts Council and the Stratford Town Trust not to support the Festival this year, as they have in the past.
Despite the continuing support of many private sponsors, this creates the risk of losses being incurred beyond the funding already secured, which was considered unacceptable by the Board and Trustees of the Festival.
However, chief executive David Mills confirmed that the Festival will resume next year: “We are of course deeply disappointed not be able to go ahead with this year’s Festival, but it was the right decision in light of the funding constraints placed upon us. I am pleased to say, however, that the Festival will resume in September 2019 in partnership with Orchestra of the Swan, in a revised format which we believe will attract sizeable audiences to hear wonderful music in Stratford.”
All prospective Festival-goers who have already purchased tickets for this year’s events will receive a full refund.
