Pianist Jan Lisiecki will replace pianist Murray Perahia on August 24 at 7pm at the Riga Jurmala Music Festival in the performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Zubin Mehta. Unfortunately, Murray Perahia has had to withdraw from this engagement due to ill health, as well as engagements at the Salzburg Festival, the BBC Proms in London and the Lucerne Festival. The program will remain unchanged: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major op. 58 and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major.
“On behalf of our team and all of Murray Perahia’s admirers, we wish a prompt recovery to Murray Perahia,” says Zane Čulkstēna, Managing Director of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival. “We hope to see him return for a future edition of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival. Even though it is always challenging to announce last minute changes to the program, Jan Lisiecki is an outstanding artist whose career I have followed and supported over the last ten years,” says Martin T:son Engstroem, Artistic Director of the Riga Jurmala Music Festival. “He will already be in Jurmala for a solo recital on August 23 at 7pm, which will be the first time he performs for Latvian audiences, so we are particularly grateful that he has agreed to rearrange his schedule at such short notice to step in for Murray Perahia the following evening. We are all particularly excited because this performance will mark Jan’s joint debut with the legendary Zubin Mehta and with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.”
Jan Lisiecki will be giving a solo recital at the Riga Jurmala Music Festival on August 23 at 7pm at the Dzintari Concert Hall. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Frédéric Chopin.
