The veteran jazz-band leader and trumpeter – he had a 60-year career – Humphrey Lyttelton has died at the age of 86. "Humph died peacefully with his family and friends around him on April 25 at 7.00pm after surgery.”

Lyttelton was also a popular broadcaster with two long-running shows on BBC Radio – hosting a programme of jazz recordings that ran for 40 years on Radio 2 and as chairman of the satirical quiz “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue” on Radio 4.

Humphrey Lyttelton was born on 23 May 1921.
