On Sunday 8 May the Michael Nyman Festival 'Michael Nyman at Cadogan Hall' (London) was wreathed in controversy when it was ordered that the programmes be immediately withdrawn from circulation due to the explicit nature of some of the content. The texts to Nyman's latest work '8 Lust Songs', newly available on CD on MN Records, were reproduced in the programme. Nyman's music is set to the erotic poems of the 16th century poet Pietro Aretino who was in turn inspired by Marcantonio Raimondi's explicit engravings - the Renaissance equivalent of the Karma Sutra.
