A composer’s tribute to a forebear with these bracing, unvarnished and unsentimental versions of Elgar’s ‘quick marches’, including “Land of Hope and Glory”. Bliss’s conducting of his own music is equally convincing, whether in the film studio (H. G. Wells) or on ceremonial duty (another memorable ‘big’ tune). The early stereo sound comes up freshly. The flag is well-flown here!
