This is fine Bruckner, with the VPO in top form and Stein striking just the right balance between narrative flow and architectonics. Such is the clarity and rhythmic incisiveness Stein achieves here that Boulez comes to mind, while the VPO’s rich strings and refulgent brass are well captured by Decca. Of the Weber items, the Euryanthe Overture is especially convincing.
