Masterpieces both! Two scintillating scores (Paris, 1870/1876) brimful of hits, paraded here with panache and style – insouciant, exhilarating, always magnetic. Whether conducted by Dorati or Fistoulari, both had the measure of Delibes’s choreography-in-music, his fund of tunes and colourful brilliance. Their orchestras play with relish. Knockout sound, too, from the Mercury Living Stereo stable with thrilling presence and tangible detailing.
