The Magic Flute

Written by: Colin Anderson

Last November the Royal Academy of Music mounted a memorable production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, a showcase for its Opera Course and the young singers participating. The wisdom and love of Sir Colin Davis’s ever-youthful conducting inspired the whole. Witty and sublime moments abound once more for the RAM has issued a composite of the performances, sung in English, on two CDs, which is only available from the Academy in exchange for a donation. The sound is a little variable, but an enjoyable occasion is happily preserved. For further details call the office of the Vice-Principal and Director of Studies on 020 7873 7251, or take a look at the RAM’s website.
