Paul LewisPhotograph: Jack LiebeckUnfortunately Paul Lewis was taken ill shortly before the recital’s start “due to an acute and sudden onset of a virus with extreme vertigo.” Notification was received at 4 p.m. (too late for your already-left-home reviewer!). There seems to be no plans to re-schedule this programme, so Paul Lewis’s next Royal Festival Hall appearance is on June 5, the second concert in this four-part series juxtaposing works by Beethoven, Brahms and Haydn. In the meantime, Classical Source sends Mr Lewis best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.
