The Classical Source Recommends
by: Colin Anderson
Not sure what happened to August, but I expect the month flying by had something to do with the Proms (Classical Source covered the lot, our reviews soon to be archived, if of course remaining findable).
With many thanks to David Pickard for his end-of-term Proms editorial, I’m afraid you are now back with me. There follows a few recorded highlights.
Piano music by Josef Suk, Brahms orchestrated by Kenneth Woods, and concertante works by Alexandre Tansman all proved intriguing and are certainly worth a punt.
The top three, from six of the best, are String Trios by Stephen Dodgson, the latest volume of Chandos’s Richard Rodney Bennett series, and Daniel Lozakovich playing Bach.
Dear reader, I direct you to the respective reviews, adding, as Lucky Seven, Ashkenazy’s Rachmaninov.
