Extraordinary wide-ranging playing from a perfectionist! The miraculous Scarlatti sonatas are distilled for maximum colour and expression; the Beethoven enjoys weight, clarity, searching and wit; and Schumann’s fantastical opus – technically nonchalant – is given with a spaciousness that really expresses the heart enshrined within the notes. The encores include a laconic Chopin Waltz, otherworldly Debussy and tender Mompou. Decent mono sound.
