Typically eloquent and considered Barbirolli performances distinguished by a vivid communicative glow, these Romantic and illustrative pieces have many picturesque qualities that are offset by a depth of humanity and meaning that this conductor was particularly sensitive to. The Hallé items supplement a classic Barbirolli/LSO LP of Ireland’s scenic overture, Bax’s sea-swept narrative and Delius’s languorous and ecstatic musical poems.
