These are performances of depth and charm. Masur characterises each movement in the First Serenade with obvious affection, the weight of the substantial Adagio nicely offset by a feather-light touch in the following Minuet. Less emphasis is placed on the Adagio of the Second Serenade so as not to upset the more delicate atmosphere in part created by wind-heavy scoring.
