Duration: 74 minutes

An ardent and impulsive account of the now-so-popular Second Symphony finds Paul Kletzki’s meticulousness melding seamlessly into his Slavic projection of Rachmaninov’s darkly passionate score, the Suisse Romande Orchestra responding with anything but Swiss neutrality. Lovely sound that reminds of the glory days of the SXL LP. Ashkenazy’s (digital) Isle of the Dead shimmers in half-lights until the coruscating climax.
