These endearing pieces are given a frolicsome outing by I Musici (The Musicians). Rossini’s String Sonatas enjoy long-breathed melodies and witty ditties; and some movements are akin to operatic arias. Rossini could be a cheeky chappy, his writing full of surprises, not least his use of the double bass. This is music to enjoy. Richard Osborne’s booklet note adds value.
