Anyone resisting Arnold Schoenberg’s music should find this release a fine bargain-introduction to the composer’s different sides – the radical Five Orchestral Pieces, the quirky ‘freely adapted’ Cello Concerto after Georg Monn (1717-50) and the marvellous transcription of one of Brahms’s most approachable chamber works here given a rustic and vital rendition under Robert Craft who supplies a detailed booklet note.
