Two hugely attractive ‘Cinderella’ violin concertos brought to life by Boris Belkin. Paganini’s daredevil concerto – Mehta a lively, spot-on accompanist – is packed with good tunes and pyrotechnics while Richard Strauss’s example is a Romantic beauty with a memorably skittish finale. Ashkenazy’s a fine supporter here as he is in Tchaikovsky’s delicious Valse-Scherzo. Throughout, Belkin judiciously blends musicianship and technical command.
