A symphony of immutable strength paired with an orgiastic symphony-manqué. Zubin Mehta revels in Scriabin’s colourful extremes and leads a tensile, driven and humane ‘Inextinguishable’, maybe too luxuriant in LA clothing, but vitally gripping. The Nielsen sounds slightly dulled here, if detailed, with terrific ‘battling’ timpanists, while the Scriabin (which follows after too short a gap) enjoys vintage Decca engineering.
