This is the first release on CD of “Rückert-Lieder” and a most welcome one. Here, as throughout the disc, Marilyn Horne uses her rich timbre to inflect the luminous quality of her interpretations with an ambiguity that particularly suits “Kindertotenlieder” from which ‘Oft denk’ ich, sie sind nur ausgegangen’ is exemplary in this respect. Mehta and Lewis are sympathetic partners.
