Eschenbach’s integration of piano and orchestra is notable in these stylish and vivid accounts, the pianist’s crisp articulation revealing phrase, run and accents with acumen and spirit. The ‘Elvira Madigan’ slow movement (K467) is given full Romantic shape and bloom. Eschenbach plays Mozart’s cadenzas or, in absentia, writes his own. The A major and B flat concertos are especially persuasive.
